Healthy Snack Idea: Fruit, Cottage Cheese and Granola Bowl

Snacking healthy always seems like a daunting task doesn’t it? When most people think of snacks, chips, cookies and ice cream come to mind. I like to change that way to thinking and determine snacks as a small meal in between larger meals to keep you nourished and the other things more as treats to enjoy on occasion.
So what constitutes a healthy snack? I always aim for a balance of protein and fiber as well as a little healthy fat to keep me feeling satisfied until my next meal time.
This has been something I’ve been enjoying recently and offers a nice change from my usual choice of yogurt. Cottage cheese is a fantastic source of protein and is low in fat and calories. I like to add a few shakes of cinnamon to it to give it a sweet kick. Granola mixes well into cottage cheese, much like yogurt and the fruit toppings are completely up to you!
If you’re growing tired of yogurt, give cottage cheese a try!
Fruit, Cottage Cheese and Granola Bowl
1/2 cup fat-free or low-fat cottage cheese
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 sliced banana
1/4 cup assorted berries
1/4 cup Nuts About Granola
1/2 tbsp Nut Butter (optional)
Place cottage cheese in a bowl and mix it with cinnamon. Lay assorted fruit on top and top with granola. Add the almond butter for a little added fat and protein if you like. It also tastes delicious mixed into the bowl!
